About the film:

Millions of children in Lima (Peru) grow up in the poorest conditions and, in most cases, are not given the chance to receive a good education or any vocational training due to their poor social status.

However, there is a glimmer of hope in the middle of the slum quarter “El Agustino”: it is the German Johannes Gutenberg School –financed by donations from the charity organization “Kinderwerk Lima e.V.”, a charity for helping children, supported by the Evangelical Lutheran State Church of Württemberg.

The “Colegio Johannes Gutenberg” accepts the most socially needy children from this quarter – even the now 8-year-old Sara, who has been going to school here since she was three years old.

The charity “Kinderwerk Lima e.V.” not only takes care of the Johannes Gutenberg School, but they also provide daily breakfast for the neediest children and their mothers at 139 locations in the many poor areas around Lima –feeding a total of 11,512 people. They are the poorest of the poor, whom the charity is trying to keep from starvation. Everything they have on their bodies comes from donations. Sara’s cousin Lucero (9 years old) is also part of this group. She lives in the poor quarter called “Comas”.
