About the film:

The island kingdom that is the Salomon Islands is made up of six large volcanic islands and roughly 1000 small coral islands.

In the flat lagoons, and on the edge of the coral garden reef, Reef Fishes and Fusiliers bustle about. Giant clams, snails, and sea stars profit from the tiny coral polyps. The delicate pipefishes perform their pairing dance between the reef corals.

Twenty-five million years ago, many coral islands developed due to volcanic activity. The southern-most island of the archipelago, Rennell, is raised 200 meters. It is the highest coral atoll in the world – a natural wonder.

The jungle growing atop the coral rock is difficult to weave through. Rare species of animals such as the Black-necked Ibis or the Sillver-capped Fruit Dove are hidden in it.

Tongan Flying Foxes have become quite rare on the other Pacific islands, but can still be seen on Rennell. Sadly, these animals were hunted and thus, Lake Nggano on Rennell –a further natural wonder – is not a paradise any longer.

The largest freshwater lake in the South Pacific is a brooding ground for water birds like Little Pied Cormorant, Black-necked Ibis, Red-footed Booby and Frigate Birds. Seakraits, which are otherwise only found in the Pacific Ocean, also live in the brackish freshwater lake.
